I decided this winter since I'm upgrading the power and to play it safe in general: I replaced the rod bearings by the book. I am a little dissapointed with the results but I'm happy I caught it on time here is a pic The #4 rod bearing was not like the rest which is extremely weird, I have no idea what caused it but am truly thankful there was no knocking, the bearing hadn't spun yet, the crank journal and the rod were unharmed, and the new bearing installed and gauged correctly.I'm on a quest to never get a spun rod bearing on this engine, it was originally purchased from ConceptZ in a front clip about 5 years ago, it had unknown mileage so I assume I received it with ~60k miles, I ran it for another 60k very hard to this point but I also maintained it well IMO (regular maintenance, proper warm-up/ cool down, oil changes, no overheating etc) I am making a shopping list and this evening what is on that shopping list will be purchased, my budget is no more than $1000. I asked advice from a few people now and have received conflicting advice, mostly in respect to the J&S knock guard unit. One said to get it the other said not to, reason being if the knock guard activates it will retard my timing and cause high egt's which will burn up my valves, I feel to combat this issue I would also buy a pyrometer. Enough with the depressing stuff, here are my build pics up to this point: Parts spread-

2.5" IC piping and massives installed

I was able to install the stock recircs without modifying them heavily, I just unscrewed the steel elbows and swapped them to the opposite side, fit almost perfectly

I found a nasty little surprise as I was cleaning my pop filters, the older of the 2 had completely lost it's element (Z1 filter)
Keep in mind this thing is 5 years old, don't know if it was crap or I cleaned it incorrectly but the new one is made of a different material and still looks like new
so I decided to go with the new 370z filter replacements for better fitment
I found out why my fan clutch wouldn't let go.... even in this cold weather
 My gt28rs's installed :D
 Dat 5 bolt dough :P
This is the first time I've ever flipped the engine like this
also the first time I installed a timing belt and water pump upside down LOL

I'm still not done but will be sure to post updates in a month from now :) please let me know what you think about the situation, many of you have already gone through this, what would you have told yourself before it happened? Here is an old post I made leading up to this.
*disclaimer*: all that I say may be true or I may be completely wrong and I accept that.... please, it is your duty as another person on the internet to impolitely tell me how wrong I am :) "The dreaded 2nd windshiled wiper swipe when you turn it off its almost like tis showing you that it's boss, and it doesn't have to stop when you tell it to :("-College Boy (discussion on ptu relocation) "No good reason to put it there anyway. -Bernie (NoVA) False -vorpalZ False. -Bernie (NoVA) You're correct, there are 3 good reasons -vorpalZ False. -Bernie (NoVA) Wow, right again, just remembered another, make that 4 -vorpalZ" XD
